Maravedis recently launched its new WiMAX tracking service called WiMAXCounts (www.WiMAXCounts.com). The service includes an online database, a reporting system, and a quarterly newsletter. In May 2007, when the service became commercially available, WiMAXCounts was tracking over 100 WiMAX operators across 36 countries. Although this is not a full representation of the WiMAX ecosystem, we estimate that WiMAXCounts covers 80% of BWA/WiMAX subscribers and 50% of BWA/WiMAX operators. more…
How Much is WiMAX ARPU?

Can operators make money with WIMAX? The answer is: yes. Based on the data collected for WiMAXCounts, most WiMAX operators generate ARPUs for business customers that would make mobile operators envious. These WiMAX operators offer fixed and portable services that generally provide comparable ARPUs to cable and DSL.
According to our research for WiMAXCounts, we found that APAC has the lowest ARPU for residential customers. BWA/WiMAX operators in the Asia Pacific region (APAC) offer residential customers the highest speeds, yet APAC have the lowest ARPU at US$30.45 more…
Clearwire Shows its Cards

Clearwire’s agreement with DirecTV Group and EchoStar Communications, which will create bundled voice, Internet data, and video packages that each company can offer to prospective customers, may be but the first of many such alliances.
Both the cable MSOs (multiservice operators) and satellite TV service providers are in a tough situation: as with digital radio, they will see increased competition from packaged land-line and mobile 3G broadband media, as cellular networks achieve media transport bandwidths and are married with multi-mode media services. The trend has long been expected, with initial impacts in parts of Asia, Europe, and the United States. 3G cellular networks, combined with MediaFlo from Qualcomm, shows the direction of things to come. more…
