Downs: Palm Inc announced last week that its answer to competitors Apple and Research in Motion, the Pre smartphone, still needs "more polishing" but will be released during the first half of the year. Palm also revealed a 70% drop in revenue over last year, and warned of a weak fiscal third quarter; its shares fell 4.7% following the announcement. Thanks to mobile operators offering mobile broadband services at comparable rates to fixed services, Western Europe and APAC will account for 60% of mobile Internet traffic by 2013. In a move echoing that of the cellular phone industry, consumers are starting to opt to forgo their fixed lines in favor of mobile.
