"Qualcomm has already announced 2010 will be a challenging year, with the main threats being Intel and Mediatek. The 3G market is transitioning to a low-cost/mid-tier market (even smartphones), whereas QCOM lacks the monolithic, cheap solutions that make Mediatek, IFX and BRCM so successful. The more mature the market, the more QCOM loses its presence as providing compelling chipset solutions. It needs to be in a leadership position in terms of new technologies to maintain huge premium margins."
