Two (2) weeks ago the first dual mode 3G/WiMAX smartphone was finally released by Sprint at CTIA. This was a much anticipated launch, and is expected to speed up customer adoption of the 4G network services being highly publicized in major US cities. The device includes some interesting features, including the industry's largest 4.3-inch capacitive display with pinch-to-zoom and tactile feedback, an 8.0 mega pixel camera on the back, a 1.3 mega pixel on the front (for video conferencing), HD quality video and more. The handset also functions as a portable Wi-Fi hotspot, allowing up to 8 Wi-Fi devices to connect through the handset and leverage its speedy 4G connection. The FCC National Broadband Plan (NBBP), which outlines releasing of 500 MHz of additional spectrum for broadband services over the next ten years, has come under fire from Verizon and AT&T, holders of the bulk of coveted 700 MHz spectrum.
