So here we are back at WIMAX World already, this time in Chicago. The choice of the city makes sense since Sprint is deploying its XOHM service with Motorola right here. Maravedis had a busy pre-conference day at the WiMAX World Chicago conference.  A whole afternoon workshop by Maravedis was spent covering deployment trends, spectrum analysis, consumer electronics and IPR and then finally PTP trends. Our sessions were competing against four other tracks.  So we are grateful to the large audience we received at each session.

I am always amused by people taking pictures of our slides. Presentations will be available online on wimaxtrends website as well as maravedis-bwa.com. The workshop was the opportunity to share our regional WiMAX deployment maps with the audience. The consumer electronics co presented with Sprint generated many questions around the timeline for introducing wimax chipsets into wimax devices and understand what the WiMAX ecosystem really means. The IPR sessions presented by Robert Syputa included two distinguished panelists from Motorola and Samsung, two important patent holders in OFDM/MIMO. Issues like patent pooling, IPR royalty rates, future likely collaborative scenarios among patent holders were reviewed in great details and real world situations were discussed.

Finally, Earl Lum from EJL wireless provided great insights on the PTP market trends, the impact of software defined radios, the capacity and price evolution of microwave radios and how WIMAX may impact the PTP market. Indeed, quite a busy afternoon for us and a learning experience for the audience.
