"With LTE deployments accelerating, new base station architectures coming to the market, and buoyant demand for data services, all RAN vendors are enjoying improved fortunes. However, the trends in early LTE contract awards may be setting the stage for a shake-up in the traditional vendor rankings".

  • Regulation

"With the exception of Germany, most populated countries across Western Europe (UK, France, Spain, Italy and Greece) are still waiting for LTE spectrum to be allocated. While this issue remains unresolved, adoption of LTE in this region will continue to be low, despite the early Scandinavian launch of TeliaSonera and its competitors"

  • Operators

"Clearwire’s announcement that it is planning to migrate to LTE-advanced is in line with Maravedis prediction that it will move to LTE back in 2007. Despite continued growth in WiMAX, Maravedis’ tracking of the industry clearly shows that Clearwire is among a few die-hards that are still backing the technology. We wonder however, if LTE-advanced is perhaps a leap too far. Despite the demonstrations and announcements, LTE-Advanced is still a few years off, and in the meantime it will be difficult for WiMAX operators to remain competitive against rapidly improving HSPA performance  and a rapidly maturing LTE eco-system.
